Map each work area
List guestrooms, offices, washrooms, food areas and stores. For each area, record materials, usual soils, occupancy patterns and available tools. This prevents a single cleaner becoming the automatic choice for every task.
Assign both the operator and reviewer, and define what counts as completion. A signature without a clear work scope cannot explain differences between shifts. Keep the record short enough to use where work happens.
Distinguish cleaning from disinfection
Cleaning removes dirt; disinfection serves a different purpose. Where a disinfectant is needed, follow its label for surfaces, contact time and use. Never mix cleaning products. The linked CDC reference provides general facility guidance.
Write the required steps for each area rather than using a vague “clean and sanitise” instruction. This makes training and review clearer without assuming efficacy that has not been documented for the product.
Make preparation repeatable
For each concentrate, create a work card based on approved manufacturer instructions: measuring equipment, water requirements and container identification. Do not choose one ratio for every cleaner. Keep documentation accessible and assign responsibility for changes when a new formulation or pack arrives.
Equipment alone is insufficient. Ask the operator to demonstrate the task, then resolve differences between the written procedure and actual practice before expanding its use.
Review three useful measures
Track product consumed per work unit, repeat-cleaning incidents and stockouts during a shift. Choose a relevant unit: an occupied hotel room, serviced office area or equipment cycle. Investigate sudden increases before blaming staff or replacing a product; soils, scope or measuring equipment may have changed. Records become useful when they lead to a specific correction.
